Even after numerous meeting over the security & political situation in J&K, New Delhi never mentioned a specific timeline for the conduction of Assembly Elections in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
But Union Home Minister Amit Shah in an interview has revealed that elections are going to happen soon in the region. This time he didn’t stop here but asserted that as the Delimitation exercise is going soon to end, within a stipulated time frame of 6-8 months the electoral process will be initiated.
Though earlier many political experts suggested that Delimitation Commission J&K might get an another extension of three months, however, that seems to be inappropriate now as the country’s Home Minister has unambiguously deliberated on thi issue.
Furthermore, it is quiet obvious elections will be held probably by the October of this year as the only hurdle for withholding elections in J&K was the delay in submission of the Delimitation Commission’s report, and as the report is almost ready a formal notice will seal the commencement of elections.
With regards to the matter of Statehood, the Central Government has always made peace and stability in the region conditional for its restoration.
Now as the word has spread everywhere, the political parties will further put forth their zealous efforts to lure the voters towards their respective agendas. Idealogical debates and public outreach programs will soon take J&K in its grip.
Only this time, it seems that the citizens wont agree over mere persuasion but rather politicians would have to prove and explain their sincerity & genuiness to them on ground zero.
This is almost six years after the Governor’s rule & then Presidential rule was imposed in J&K. Since then no popular government has remained at the helm of affairs. Though things will definitely begin to change now.
