The Ministry of Law and Justice today further extended the already set term for the submission of a final report of the Delimitation Commission for J&K by two months. Thus, on 6th May 2022 the reshaping of the Assembly constituencies will be eventually settled once for all.
But the political atmosphere in J&K seems to have been highly stimulated from the past few days. In an interaction with the media, BJP Spokesperson Altaf Thakur raked up accolades for the Delimitation Commission’s draft report while terming it to be fair and rational. However, the parties in the PAGD Alliance alleged that the report favoured BJP and the proposed changes remained in contrast to the factual position on ground.
Besides, Peoples Conference and Apni Party also voiced candidly against the Delimitation Commission’s report. Sajad Lone called the draft reports incongruous and expressed deep resentment over it while Altaf Bukhari in a recent press conference held at Jammu said the Commission’s report has been apparently devised to benefit BJP. Congress also darted its sharp criticism on BJP labelling the report as ‘dictation of BJP leaders.’
In Jammu province, the Panther’s Party & IkkJut Jammu criticized the blending of Anantnag-Rajouri districts as a single Lok Sabha constituency while claiming it to be an attempt to subtly implement the infamous Dixon Plan. These political factions also protested against the planned demarcation in the second draft.
In an outlandish manner, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday urged the people of J&K to vote for the allies of PAGD. This triggered a barrage of criticism from other parties who raised questions over the integrity of PAGD. Aam Aadmi Party & People’s Conference leadership gave press briefs on this appeal.
Such war of words over the media is becoming a norm now. The political parties want to make their presence felt & assuredly we will witness more of this debating in the upcoming days.
