Something things are exceptionally timeless. The things that are not affected by the changes in society or technological advancements. They continue to remain same.
However, in Kashmir division the administrative preparations for winters can aptly be equated with that notion of timelessness.
Even six months prior to the onset of winter season, the administration begins to boast about its preparedness for the winter, the new transformations & requisite upgradations in the machinery to clear snow.
This all seems to be promising when the leaves are still green but with lightest snowfall, all these claims turn to be hoaxes. Today’s minor snowfall has clearly exposed the administrative agility as the power blackouts have sunken valley into the darkness while roads continue to remain clad with snow.
The Srinagar City had no transport facility for the whole day that gives us the idea to fancy about the conditions in the remote villages of the valley. It seems administration has no plan to tackle this situation apart from the tall claims made on social media platforms.
A pregnant lady had to be carried on cot by her family members towards hospital while many houseboats have submerged into the lake water. Reports of various patients who had to travel to city for treatment are rife today but the considerable support from the government has been missing.
In addition to this, people are totally lost as to which public representative they should turn to? In absence of an elected government, the bureacratic system can never effectively adress the woes of common man.
Furthermore, most of the officials at the helm are non-natives which adds to the communication gap & understanding of the local problems.
The story of bleak and agonising winters seems to never leave the people of Kashmir. It always returns with a resolve to repeats all these muting circumstances once again, as has been the tradition since time immemorial.
