Bandipora, Mar 25 : A 100-bed hostel meant for students belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal in Bandipora has been made operational and is expected to be thrown open next week.
The facility will provide accommodation to students from the community who until now were facing problems on account of accommodation while coming to towns and urban centres from far-off areas for educational purposes.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad confirmed to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the hostel has been made functional.
He said the hostel was made operational in a short time after completion of civil works so that students can avail the facility.
The construction work started in 2016 was completed this year at a cost of 3.25 crore, an official said and added that the hostel will be inaugurated officially in the next few days.
The official said that currently 50 students are admitted in the hotel and it can accommodate a total of 100 students.
Students, meanwhile, thanked the administration making the hostel operational—(KNO)
