Save Environment

Date:

While the flow of tourists to Kashmir valley is highly needed to give impetus to the ailing tourism industry; the footfall has some ramifications as well. Be it world class tourist destinations or unexplored virgin landscapes in the Valley, the tourism department needs to ensure that no harm is inflicted to the fragile ecosystem at such places.

The hoteliers, guest house and houseboat owners need to be educated about the pros and cons of the tourist rush in order to ensure minimal damage to the environment. Water, air or land—all the three categories in Kashmir are at the receiving end. It is not only the tourists but the rush of local population who throng these destinations, especially on weekends, needs to be strictly regulated so as to prevent environmental hazards on such picturesque places.

The government must also introduce electric cars on such destinations besides ensuring swift garbage collection so as to make these world class destinations more attractive for more and more potential tourists from across the world. Rivers, streams and rivulets flowing nearby in almost all tourist destinations across the valley need to be safeguarded from being polluted.

The tourism department can also introduce cycling tracks and other amusement parks for the children who often find squeezed options for their recreation. Children form a significant part of the total tourist footfall and the government needs to take care of their holiday interests.
