SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday paid rich tributes to freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his 102th death anniversary,saying he was a social reformer and iconic leader.
Sinha said that Tilak’s wisdom and patriotic fervor will continue to inspire generation to come “Remembering revolutionary freedom fighter, iconic leader and social reformer Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Ji on his Punya Tithi. His wisdom and patriotic fervor will continue to inspire generations to come,” he wrote on twitter.
Popularly known as Lokmanya, Bal Gangadhar Tilak was born into a Brahmin family on July 23, 1856 in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra and died on August 1, 1920, Mumbai.
Tilak was a scholar, a writer, mathematician and a philosopher. He helped lay the foundation for India’s independence.
He wrote the book ‘Gita-Rahasya’ while he was in prison.
