Army organised cricket tournament concludes in Watlab

Bandipora Aug 03:-Cricket tournament organized by 26 Assam Rifles of Indian Army concluded today at Watlab playground.

A large number of youth from different villages participated in the tournament and thanked the Indian army for providing a platform to showcase their talent.

Final match was played between keheneusa 11 cricket team and Junior legend watlab at watlab cricket ground.

After winning toss kehne us choose to bowl first in which Watlab That sets a target of 97 runs in 15 overs which was chased in 14.3 overs with the loss of five wickets by kehneusa 11.

Around 12 teams participated in the tournament from the different villages of Bandipora district. The Indian army has been continuously taking initiatives to engage youth in the valley in different sports and cultural activities.

The event culminated with distribution of prizes amongst the winners and runners up of the tournament.

”It’s a great initiative by the Indian army to provide a platform for the youth to play sports. There are 12 teams and sports are as important as studies, there are so many youths involved in drugs these days and to keep them away, Sports plays a very important role. We should promote sports. ” said Muzamil, a winning team captain from keheneusa.

The players while hailing the efforts of army towards sports said that hope more sports tournaments will be organized in future by army so that the local boys get opportunity to show their talent in sports.

“The event witnessed high levels of enthusiasm, energy and mass participation from the locals throughout the matches and a packed ground on the final day was a clear indicator of the success of the event. More such events to provide a platform and to hone the skills of the locals are being planned by the 26 assam rifles in future,”said Dy commandant 26 Assam rifles Vasudan Potty.
