Illicit timber seized in Tral

PULWAMA, Aug 6: Wildlife officials along with forest and protection force seized several wood logs (timber) along with a load carrier in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said on Saturday.

They informed Kashmir Despatch that the logs were during the joint naka, laid by the teams of J&K forest department, Wildlife department and Forest Protection Force (FPF) at upper area in Tral sub district.

Range Officer (RO), Wildlife, Khanagund Range, Bashir Ahmad has said that “a joint naka of wildlife, forest and its protection force was launched at Satoora area of Tral, last night.”

He said: “The joint team intercepted a load carrier, and recovered around 49 Cft timber, however culprits managed to flee from the spot, while taking the advantage of darkness.” The officer further said that they have taken the recovered timber and load carrier into their possession, while further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the casual labourers of wildlife department in Tral have said that they work tirelessly in all the situations, and play a vital role in the department for a long time.  They urged higher ups to look into their grievances, and redress them at the earliest.
