Congress Conundrum

Date:

Resignation of Ghulam Nabi Azad from the basic membership of Congress vindicated the opinion of a vast majority in the country that this Party has lost its sheen; mostly because of the decades old dominance of Gandhi family since the inception of this Party.

Azad’s scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi also reveals a sordid saga of internal bickering within the Congress that has made this Party nothing more than a laughing stock for the people in general and political pundits in particular.

The resignation of Congress veteran may have its implications across the country because it has happened at a time when the Party was about to go for organizational elections to choose its president, but surely it will have a huge impact on J&K’s political landscape.

There will be a churning in almost all the political parties in J&K and a significant number of leaders from here and there may join hands with Azad to form a new political combination before he establishes a new regional political platform in J&K.

What will be the future of that political party is debatable but one thing is sure that Azad’s resignation has given a big blow to Congress’s ahead of the forthcoming assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. Otherwise also, the Congress was on a weak wicket  on the political turf in J&K but the latest episode of the party’s misfortune has further eroded its already weak position among masses.

Though the time will tell about the new political equations that will emerge after the assembly polls in J&K which are yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India, but Azad’s departure from his half century association with the Congress will surely change the scenario and bring a paradigm shift in the political probabilities in coming days.
