Shun administrative inertia

Date:

Till the assembly elections are held in Jammu and Kashmir and people elect their representatives, the bureaucracy can’t act as a mute spectator to the miseries of the general public.

Be it roads, drinking water, electricity or healthcare the people in rural areas and for that matter even in many peripheral parts of Srinagar and Jammu cities, yearn for a redressal of their day-to-day grievances.

Many villages in Kashmir division crave for safe drinking water and repair of dilapidated roads but their appeals seem to be falling on deaf ears. Similarly, almost every-day, we see reports pouring in from other remote destinations like Gurez valley.

The inhabitants of this picturesque tourist destination want basic facilities like roads, drinking water, dispensary, healthcare and schools. But the neglect and official apathy is compelling its residents to migrate to Bandipora town or other nearby towns to help themselves in this regard.

Residents in Sopore town of district Baramulla want round the clock presence of senior doctors at Sub District Hospital but the ground reports suggest that only junior doctors are being assigned the night duty who seldom come up to the expectations of the general public.

People in this town want their hospital to be upgraded into district hospital in light of a vast catchment area being dependent on the healthcare services in Sopore.

Similarly, a few villages in Baramulla district that are at stone’s throw away from the main town, crave for LT lines and electric poles so that their children are safeguarded from the hazards of the openly hung live electric wires that distribute electricity in the village.

While the intent and the will of the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to make J&K number one in the country is well known to one and all; the will of a section of bureaucrats holding important positions in the administration on the ground seems missing.
