DC Kupwara’s remarks should become an inspiration

Date:

The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray’s remarks about confiscation of properties of drug peddlers made on Saturday while chairing a meeting of District Level Committee of NARCO Coordination Centre (NCORD) mandated for controlling of drug abuse in the district, are appreciable.

The details that emerged during this meeting reflected an alarming scenario about the drug menace in the District Kupwara. 89 cases under NDPS Act have been registered during the previous year. These cases involved arrest of 161 accused persons, 30 PSA detentions, seizure of 27.11 kg Charas, 8.24 kg Brown Sugar, 20.20 kg Heroin, 450 bottles of codeine and recovery of fine of Rs.1182500 has also been made during the previous year.

Dr Dattatray has already done a commendable job in Jammu region where he left an indelible mark as the deputy commissioner of Doda district. The people of Doda district still acknowledge the managerial and administrative acumen dispensed by Dr Dattatray during crisis and challenging situations in the district.

People of Kupwara have also pinned their hopes on Dr Dattatray to improve the developmental indices of this district besides addressing the drug menace that is eating into the vitals of the society in North Kashmir especially in the border district.

Another important takeaway from today’s meeting that was chaired by DC Kupwara was that his direction for holding separate conferences for sensitization of religious scholars, besides, Numberdars, Chowkidars and PRIs to tackle the drug menace.

To counter the drug menace in the district, Dr Dattatray’s assertion that the properties of the drug peddlers shall be identified and seized has given a sigh of relief to the people especially the parents whose children have already become victims of ‘slow poisoning’.

The DC’s firm commitment to wipe out the scourge of drugs from the district shall become an inspiration for other districts development commissioners in J&K so that a well organized drive that has already been launched across the country against the menace of drugs is taken to its logical conclusion in Jammu and Kashmir.
