SKUAST-K Directorate of Extension and Faculty of Fisheries organized a three day training programme on “Capacity Building Programme and Technology Adoption cum Exposure Visit” of Glacial Trout FPO of Anantnag District from 12th to 14th January 2022 . The programme was sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and was facilitated by Human Welfare Foundation (NGO).

Inaugural session was held on 12th of January which was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension, SKUAST-K. Prof. (Dr) Farooz A. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Heads and Scientists of various Divisions of Faculty of Fisheries, trainees and officials of Human Welfare Foundation (NGO) were present during the inaugural session.
Prof. (Dr) Farooz A. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Fisheries during the inaugural session welcomed the guests and trainees and discussed in detail about the role and importance of FFPO’s in upliftment of Fisheries sector especially trout farming. Dean Fisheries also discussed about the infrastructure development of Trout Culture in the Kashmir Valley and highlighted the scope of trout culture and its importance as the sector being one of the most profitable venture among all agricultural sectors. The trout sector has shown exponential increase in trout production during the last one decade.
Prof. (Dr) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K, Chief Guest of the inaugural session discussed in detail the reasons of forming of FFPO’s, their role and the various centrally sponsored schemes through which the FFPO’s can get various benefits in the form of seed, feed, infrastructure for post harvest management, value addition and marketing of fish etc. Director Extension on the occasion assured the farmers that SKUAST-K is always ready to provide any sort of training or help, any time for the holistic development of any agricultural sector including the fisheries.
During the three Day training programme the trainees got acquainted with the latest technologies being used for better production and management.
During these days the farmers were given training and were made aware regarding the various aspects of trout production, post harvest production, value addition, seed production, feed management, water quality management, different centrally schemes for FFPOs and farmers etc.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Anayitullah Chesti, Head, Division of Aquaculture. At the end on the last Day i.e. 14th of January, the farmers were given participation certificates.
