JAMMU, Dec 2: In an effort to intensify the fight against unlawful activities and ensure robust legal action under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Zone, Shri Anand Jain, IPS, chaired a high-level crime review meeting during his visit to the districts of Doda and Kishtwar.
The meeting, attended by top police officials including Sh. Shridhar Patil, IPS, DIG DKR Range; Sh. Sandeep Kumar Mehta, SSP Doda; Sh. Javaid Iqbal, SSP Kishtwar; and all Gazetted Officers from the two districts, aimed to review the status of UAPA cases and streamline efforts to enhance investigation and prosecution efficiency.
Case-by-Case Review
A detailed examination of ongoing UAPA cases was conducted, with a focus on ensuring the timely collection of evidence, adherence to legal protocols, and prompt filing of charge sheets. The ADGP emphasized that a strong evidentiary foundation is key to securing successful prosecutions under the stringent provisions of UAPA.
Key Directives Issued
During the session, Shri Anand Jain issued several critical directives to improve the handling of sensitive cases: Collaboration with Prosecuting Agencies: Officers were instructed to establish seamless coordination with prosecuting agencies to expedite case proceedings and strengthen legal processes. Ensuring Witness Presence: Directions were given to ensure the availability of witnesses during trials to avoid delays and bolster case credibility.
Operational Guidelines for Investigating Officers: Clear instructions were provided to investigating officers (IOs) to enhance their operational efficiency, maintain transparency, and prioritize sensitive cases. Addressing Evidence Challenges: Actionable strategies were outlined to overcome challenges in evidence collection and documentation, ensuring thorough and legally sound investigations.
Strengthening Crime-Handling Framework
The ADGP highlighted the importance of proactive measures and inter-agency coordination to effectively counter the challenges posed by unlawful activities in the region.
