Ahead of I-Day: 10 civilians injured in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 10: Ahead of Independence Day, at least 10 civilians including two women were injured in a grenade explosion at Hari Singh High Street area of commercial hub Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Tuesday.

An officer told Kashmir Despatch that suspected militants lobbed a grenade towards 40 battalion of SSB near Hanuman Mandir here at Hari Singh High Street. He said two women among 10 civilians were injured in the attack.

The officer said that all the injured were shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, giving details to Kashmir Despatch the doctors at SMHS identified all the injured as Tariq Ahmad son of Mohammad Shafi of Burzahama Srinagar, Suhail Ahmad Dar son of Farooq Ahmad Dar of Chadoora Budgam, Ranjan Singh son of  Janak Singh of Ramban, Zulaikha wife of Mohammad Hafeez of Kargil , Aparna wife of Ranjeet Bera of Kolkata, Owise son of Ghulam Mohammad Laway of Chanpora Srinagar, Gulzar Ahmad Ganaie son of Ghulam Mohammad of Ajas Bandipora, Abdul Gani Shah son of Abdul Ahad of Seel Beeru and Mushtaq Ahmad of Khumani Chowk Bemina Srinagar.

The doctors, however, added that the injured were stable. Soon after the attack whole area was sealed to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a 26-year-old youth at Lal Chowk area of Srinagar and recovered two grenades from his bag.

Police said that the investigation is going on in this regard. “#Journo-#terrorist Adil from Pampore Pulwama #arrested along with 02 #grenades in the heart of #Srinagar City. More arrests are expected. #Investigation going on. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

Meanwhile, earlier during the day suspected militants attacked a CRPF party in Kral Check area of Zainapora hamlet in South Kashmir’s Shopian district in which one CRPF man was injured. The injured CRPF man was identified Ct Ajay Kumar of 178 bn.

It is pertinent to mention here that gunmen on Monday barged inside the rented accommodation of the BJP leader Ghulam Rasool Dar (Sarpanch) of Redwani Kulgam at Lal Chowk Anantnag and fired indiscriminately.  Both Dar and his wife Jawahira were killed in the attack.
