AIMTC Declares January 24 as National Drivers’ Day, Mega Event in Srinagar

Date:

Srinagar 16th Jan. 2025 : In a historic move, the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), the apex trade body of India’s road transport sector, has declared January 24, 2025, as the first-ever “National Drivers’ Day.” This landmark initiative aims to recognize and honor the invaluable contributions of drivers, the unsung heroes of the nation’s economy.

The road transport sector, encompassing over 95 lakh truckers and transporters and approximately 50 lakh public transport operators, serves as the backbone of India’s economy. Drivers, especially during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, played a heroic role, ensuring the delivery of essential goods and services across the nation, often risking their lives.

The celebration will be held at the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Rajbagh, Srinagar, where key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Tourism, MVD J&K, ASRTU, AIMT, RTO, and IHM, will participate. The event will include the felicitation of public transport drivers by dignitaries, emphasizing their critical role in nation-building.

AIMTC hopes this initiative will shed light on the need to improve drivers’ welfare, health, and dignity, making “National Drivers’ Day” an annual platform to honor their contributions. This momentous celebration marks a new chapter in acknowledging the driving force of India’s transport industry.
