Gulmarg, Feb 12 : As the 5th edition of Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) draws closer, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council said that they have completed all logistical preparations for the much-anticipated event.

Speaking about the preparations, Nuzhat Gull, Secretary of J&K Sports Council as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that all necessary arrangements including hotel bookings, event management and logistical requirements have been meticulously planned and everything is up to the mark.

“All we are waiting for is snowfall, which is essential for the slopes to be ski-worthy,” she stated.

The two primary venues identified for the events are Gulmarg Club and Affarwat, but both Bowl and Affarwat slopes require fresh snowfall to make them competition-ready, she said.

Gul said that around 700 people are expected to arrive in Gulmarg for the event, including 650 technical staff, delegates, and local participants, and all preparations have been done accordingly.

“If there is inadequate snowfall, the Technical Conduct Committee of the games will assess the situation and decide on the next course of action,” she replied to a query.

She also highlighted that the J&K Sports Council has always encouraged women’s participation in winter games, particularly skiing. “No sport is gender-specific, and skiing is no exception. We always promote participation from all genders, including women. This year too, we are witnessing a good number of female registrations,” she said.

The Khelo India Winter Games, 5th edition is scheduled to be held in the world-famous ski destination, Gulmarg, from February 21 to February 25—(KNO)
