Srinagar, Sep 08: ‘All is Not Well’ in Congress party since the party allied with the National Conference ahead of the assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Top sources told Kashmir Despatch that ever since the Congress-NC alliance was formed, there has been a lot of turmoil in both parties regarding the candidacies, which is causing delays in finalizing certain seats.
According to insiders, the Congress leadership is not satisfied with the situation in some of the North Kashmir seats, and they have been grappling with several internal issues for the past one week.
Insiders said that the Congress is considering a change in the candidacy of former Sopore MLA Haji Abdul Rashid, and a final decision on whether he will contest on a Congress ticket is still pending.
Sources said that the Congress top leadership wants to give an opportunity to young leaders in this election, who can be a long-lasting choice for them, rather than the old-aged people.
Insiders said that apart from Sopore, a debate is still ongoing regarding the Wagoora-Kreeri seat, and it is likely that a change may come in the final decision.
Insiders hinted that some changes are likely to happen, and Irfan Hafeez is likely to contest the Congress seat from Sopore, although it is not confirmed yet, and the decision is still being discussed. On the other hand, Suhail Bukhari is also in talks for the Wagoora-Kreeri seat, and back-to-back meetings are ongoing, and a final decision will be made soon.
