Attack on Hindus in Bangladesh cause for concern, says RSS chief

Date:

Expressing serious concern over attack on Hindus in Bangladesh, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday urged the Indian government to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Speaking in Nagpur on Thursday after hoisting the Tricolor to commemorate the 78th Independence Day at the RSS headquarters, Bhagwat spoke about the political turmoil in Bangladesh after its Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country.

Pointing out that the political instability and uncertainty in Bangladesh does not augur well for India, he said, “Our country has a great responsibility towards the people who are subjected to atrocities… The government has to tackle the situation, while it is also necessary that the society fulfills its duty and commitment towards the nation.”

Adding that Hindus are being subjected to violence and attack for no fault of theirs, Bhagwat said, “It is significant for the country to ensure that Hindu minorities in the neighbouring nations do not reel under injustice and face atrocities.”

The situation does not remain the same all the time. Sometimes it is good, while it is not so good at others. These ups and downs will continue, he said, adding, “We can clearly see how things have unfolded. There is violence with targeted attacks on the Hindu community living in Bangladesh.”
Emphasising that India has the tradition of helping others, the RSS chief said, “We have seen in the past few years that India has never attacked anyone, but helped those who were in trouble irrespective of how they behave with us.”

Outlining the journey of 78th Indian Independence Day, Bhagwat said, “The freedom was the outcome of long struggle where thousands and lakhs relentlessly worked towards a common goal. They sacrificed their lives for the Independence of India.”

“Swatantrata (Independence) was handed to us by those who valiantly fought and laid down their lives for their motherland, he said and added, “It is the responsibility of generation next to protect the ‘swa’ of the ‘swatantra’ . There are always people and forces in this world who harbour the idea of dominating others. Therefore, we have to be alert and cautious to safeguard India’s sovereignty.”
