Sopore : Students from Sopore town on Tuesday organised a rally to spread awareness on World No Tobacco day.
Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said the rally where more than 200 students were a part of this cause.
The students propagated key messages like ‘quit smoking’, ‘tobacco or health’, etc.
The rally passed through the busiest market (Iqbal Market) in town and culminated at Dak Banglow Sopore, students from various educational institutions took part in it, besides the rally was headed by senior BJP leader Dr Fareeda Khan.
Talking with Kashmir Despatch one of the teacher who was part of this rally said, “Everyone is largely aware of the ill-effects of tobacco but still can’t get over this habit”, he said “It requires a great deal of effort to chuck this addiction and the youth should have conviction in themselves and not get carried away by peer pressure of any kind”, he added.
Station house officer Sopore Khalid Fayaz in a message through this newspaper urged upon the people to stop smoking and motivate those in the habit to quit smoking. He insisted that people should choose life and not tobacco. “No Tobacco” should not be limited to one day but should be practised every day of the year, he added.
He also urged the participants to pledge to work wholeheartedly against the menace of drug addiction. He stressed the need to spread the massage far and wide to save the new generation from getting perished into drugs. Khalid said that police is putting on lot of efforts to stop the supply of these drugs and many traffickers have been booked under law but public awareness about this new menace is of paramount importance.
