How Mehak Khurshid from a Border Town is Whipping Up Inspiration for Women Everywhere

Baramulla,Jan 07 ; In the past, women in Kashmir struggled to have their contributions recognized, despite their efforts. However, over the last few years especially after the Abrogation of Article 370 women in the region have not only written their success stories but have also inspired others to follow in their footsteps.

Several young women from North Kashmir have made their parents and the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir proud through their successful careers and accomplishments. They represent a new generation of women who not only break stereotypes but also demonstrate that women are no longer dependent on men.

One such girl is Mehak Khurshid, a 26-year-old from Salamabad Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, who has set a remarkable standard through her skills.

Mehak, through her efforts in a male-dominated society, not only broken chains and stereotypes but has also shown that girls can compete successfully and make their mark in any field.

Mehak started her journey in the baking industry, and with her culinary skills, she has made a name for herself.

In an exclusive interview with Kashmir Despatch, Mehak Khurshid, a young entrepreneur, said, “I have always had a passion for doing something on my own and standing on my own feet.” However, she noted, “It has not been easy in a male-dominated society where people often discourage girls from stepping forward; my journey has also been full of challenges.”

Mehak added, “Being a resident of a remote area of Kashmir where opportunities are limited, when a person has determination, achieving success is always possible.”

Mehak said, “I started my career with the Aseem Foundation, a Pune-based NGO, where I received training through one of their initiatives focused on women’s baking empowerment. After my training, I worked in Uri, managing one of the baking units.”

Once I gained momentum, I moved to Srinagar, where I had the opportunity to work at the prestigious Hotel Taj.

At Hotel Taj, Mehak stated that she had the chance to enhance her professional skills and showcase her culinary talents. In recent years, she has had the opportunity to work at various five-star hotels.

Mehak further stated, “I received many opportunities, but I preferred to stay in Uri, in my Kashmir, to inspire many other girls who are dedicated but feel they cannot achieve anything.”

In her message, Mehak emphasized that nothing is impossible when a person has the capability and the desire to move forward.

She urged girls not to sit at home, saying, “Let’s put our efforts toward a bright and successful future. There is nothing to worry about; everything can be achieved. Let’s adopt the right mindset and channel our efforts in the right direction.”

Pertinently, Mehak is also a social activist and plays a vital role in promoting women empowerment in the region.
