Baramulla, Sep 06 : The Baramulla Assembly seat is once again caught up in political activities, as former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffar Hussain Baig, has announced that he will contest the seat as an independent candidate, adding further interest to the upcoming elections.
Sources told Kashmir Despatch that Muzaffar Hussain Baig, while addressing a political rally, announced that he will be contesting the Baramulla seat as an independent candidate.
According to the sources, former NC leader Ghulam Hassan Rahi has expressed his support for Senior Baig after he failed to secure the party’s mandate.
Sources suggest that with Senior Baig’s announcement, the Baramulla seat has taken an interesting turn, and it is being said that his contest could pose challenges for Junior Baig, and the Baramulla politics may take a different turn in the coming days.
Insiders, while speaking to Kashmir Despatch, have said that Senior Baig and former NC leader Rahi have reached an understanding to contest the elections, and it is said that more influenced people from Baramulla are joining them.
Senior Baig’s announcement has once again turned the Baramulla politics, and as per political analysts, his contesting will damage the National Conference’s prospects to a larger extent.
Now, the coming time will tell whether Senior Baig’s grip will be stronger or if Junior Baig will succeed in opening his account within the National Conference.
On the other hand, it will not be easy for other contestants in the Baramulla seat, as they are also seen playing a different role.
PDP’s Rafeeq Rather, Youth leader Tauseef Raina, AIP candidate Shoiab Lone, and PC candidate Asif Lone are in the fray, and everyone is trying their best to win, but the coming time will tell whose crown the people will place.
