Baramulla Games “Varmul Gindo” Showcases Sporting Talent in Month-Long Extravaganza

Baramulla, June 17, 2025: The inaugural multi-discipline sports event, “Varmul Gindo,” has commenced in Baramulla, drawing enthusiastic participation from boys and girls across the district. Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and the District Sports Association (DSA) Baramulla in collaboration with the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, this month-long festival aims to promote sportsmanship, healthy competition, and community engagement.

With 18 different sports on display, including Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Handball, Junior Cricket, Basketball, Kabaddi, Rugby, Kho-Kho, Table Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Karate, Wushu, Athletics, Bodybuilding, and Powerlifting, the event provides a vital platform for young athletes to demonstrate their skills and encourage a culture of fitness and teamwork.

Mr. Omar Kakroo, President of DSA Baramulla, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying, “Varmul Gindo is a landmark initiative to unite our community through sports. We hope this festival inspires our youth to pursue excellence while nurturing a passion for athletics.”

Junaid Mir, a student from GDC Baramulla, shared his excitement as well, stating, “I’ve never witnessed such a large-scale sporting event in our district. We are grateful to the Indian Army for their support.”

The opening ceremony took place on June 17, 2025, at the Showkat Ali Stadium, attended by dignitaries, local leaders, and sports enthusiasts. The games will culminate in a grand closing ceremony, where winning teams and individuals will be celebrated for their achievements.

Supported by the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna, “Varmul Gindo” highlights the unifying power of sports and the spirit of community. Over 78 teams and 1,600 individual athletes have registered, making it one of the most significant sporting events in the region.

Participants interested in joining can register through their local district sports associations.
