Baramulla is on the path towards achieving its goal of becoming a drug-free district : SSP

Baramulla, July 19: The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla Ashok Nagpure, expressed optimism on Tuesday about the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse in the district.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a free medical camp in Uri, the senior police official highlighted the active cooperation of the community in their joint mission to make Baramulla a drug-free district.

He said that with concerted efforts from law enforcement agencies and the active involvement of the people, significant progress has been made in cracking down on drug-related activities.

SSP Baramulla emphasised that the collective determination and commitment of the community have played a vital role in these accomplishments.

The SSP expressed tremendous optimism that, with continued cooperation from the people, success is within reach.

He said that the joint efforts of the police and the community have already yielded positive results, leading to a decline in drug-related incidents in the district.

“We have registered 187 FIRs under the NDPS Act in the last six months and have apprehended around 318 drug peddlers. Among them, 34 are hardcore and habitual offenders who have been booked under the NDPS Public Safety Act (PSA),” SSP Baramulla said.

He said that Baramulla is on the path towards achieving its goal of becoming a drug-free district.

Pertinently, the north Kashmir Police Range, headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Vivek Gupta, reached out on Tuesday to the locals of Silikote village and organized a free medical camp for the villagers.
