SRINAGAR, Aug 25: A Block Development Officer (BDO) presently posted in Kakapora Block has shot a letter to district magistrate Pulwama seeking a legal action against a purported news portal for circulating news that the concerned BDO prefers to stay at his home thereby ignoring official works.

In his letter number BDOK/Estt/22/1227-29 Dated 25-08-2022, a copy of which is in possession of Kashmir Despatch, the BDO concerned has said that the news portal has circulated the news about him without verifying the factual position from his office and thus made a false content viral.

“This news has been circulating without verifying the factual report from the office of the undersigned and thus made the false content viral. The news portal has posted a video of Sarpanches protesting with an allegation against the undersigned. However, the Sarpanches were protesting in demand of an AE in the REW wing who is on medical leave owing to his health conditions and the post is lying vacant from the last few days but the news portal has posted baseless content to promote its viewership and page followers,” reads the letter shot by BDO Kakapora Pulwama to DC Pulwama.

He has informed the DC Pulwama that he and all the employees of Block Kakapora were present at Block Headquarters on 24-08-2022 wherein he had called a review meeting to take a detailed review of all ongoing works under different schemes.

The BDO concerned has further observed that the mushrooming social media portals are creating unnecessarily hurdles in, “our day-to-day official duties, so it is requested to your goodself action as warranted under law shall be initiated against unauthorized handles, and the Police Station Kakapora has been informed to lodge FIR for making defamatory videos and news content viral without taking official version into account from the concerned office / officer which is otherwise mandatory as per the different circulars issued in this regard and keeping the media ethics in mind.”

Pertinently, on August 24 (Wednesday) the BDO Kakapora Dr Gulzar Bin Rehman had chaired a meeting of key officials in meeting Hall of Block office to review the progress of works both physical and financial which are approved under District Capex (DDC, BDC & PRI), 14th FCA, SBM, PMAY & progress of Soakage pits.

All Secretary Panchayats and technical wing officials were directed to expedite the expenditure within the next three days. The BDO had also directed technical officials to complete the pending estimates within one week.

During the meeting the BDO enquired about the estimation of works, tendering, allotment, completion, number of bills framed and submitted to the treasuries, besides expenditure incurred against the works completed and also sought reasons regarding pendency of bills which have not been framed against the completed works/not submitted in the treasuries.

In addition to this the BDO had directed the Planning section to seek explanation from the Junior Engineers/Technical Assistants who have yet not submitted the progress bills of works which are ongoing and complete in different panchayat Halqa’s.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Panchayats, Junior Engineers, Technical Assistants, PO, MISO, GRS’sS besides other concerned officials were also present.
