Baramulla Police has taken a proactive step in addressing the misuse of social media by issuing a set of do’s and don’ts.
These guidelines aim to provide clarity on how citizens should handle content related to terrorism, secessionism, threats, intimidation, or communally sensitive material on platforms like WhatsApp.
The Police have urged citizens to contribute to maintaining a safe online environment by adhering to these guidelines and promptly reporting any suspicious activities. To ensure quick action, individuals are advised to report objectionable content to the nearest Police Station or Police Post with a screenshot and detailed information.
In cases where inappropriate content is accidentally shared, the Police advise recalling the messages promptly. If that’s not possible, issuing a clarification to each contact or group it was shared with is recommended. It is also important to report the incident to the authorities as a precautionary measure.
Furthermore, the Police emphasize that being a part of any WhatsApp group that propagates terrorism implies agreement and approval of its content. Therefore, individuals are advised to either opt out of such groups or report them to the police.
By highlighting the importance of prompt reporting and responsible social media use, these guidelines aim to curb the spread of harmful content and create a safer online environment for everyone.
