Srinagar Feb 19 : Three policemen, three militants were killed on Friday in various gunfights between militants and security forces in Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, Three Al Badr Militants and one Police personnel were killed while another sustained bullet injuries in two separate encounters in Shopian and Budgam districts of Kashmir on Friday.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that an encounter raged between militants and forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, in which three Al Badr militants were killed during the overnight operation.
Officials said that a cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched on Thursday evening in Badigam area of Shopian. Upon reaching the suspected spot, hiding militants opened fire which was retaliated with the same response.
During the overnight operation, three Al Badr outfit militants were killed, the official added.
In another gunfight that took place in cental Kashmir’s Budgam district one police personnel was killed while another sustained bullet injuries.
An offcial told Kashmir Despatch that the encounter between militants and forces broke during the late night hours in Beerwah area.
He said during the encounter, one police personnel identified as SPO Mohammad Altaf, resident of Chadoora was killed and another police personnel, identified as SgCt Manzoor Ahmad, resident of Sopore sustained injuries, officials said, adding that the injured policeman was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
The official added that encounter in the gunfight militants managed to flee.
In another incident two policemen were killed on the high security airport road in the Baghat area of Srinagar. The two policemen were shot from close range.
Meanwhile Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar on Friday said that two millitants involved in killing of two Policemen in Baghat area of Srinagar have been identified and will be nabbed soon.
Addressing a preser after wreath laying ceremony of two policemen who were killed by millitants in Baghat area of Srinagar, Kumar said that the despite best efforts of doctors, the cops couldn’t be saved.
Kumar said that the two cops were on a routine duty and were busy in shopping when militants attacked them.
“They were unarmed and were fired on their back, they would have retailiated if they would have been armed,” he said.
The incident wil help police to work with more dedication and will take more precautions, he said.
Kumar paid rich tributes to duo slain cops Suhail Ahmad of Ashmuqam Anantnag and Muhammad Yousuf of Zurhama Kupwara.
Regarding the Shopian and Budgam encounter, Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar said that three militants belonging to militant outfit Al-Badr were killed in Imam sahib area of south Kashmir’s Shopian District while as Millitants managed to escape from encounter site in injured condition in Budgam District in which on SPO got killed and one cop was injured however corden has been launched in another village after following the blood trials of these militants.
Speaking to media on the side lines of wreath ceremony of SPO Altaf Ahmad who sustained injuries during encounter in Central kashmir’s Budgam District and later succumbed to his injuries.
Kumar said, “All the three militants killed in the operation in Shopian are locals and two Ak-47 riffles and one pistol have been recovered from their possession.”
On Budgam Encounter, Kumar said that, in the initial exchange of firing, SPO Altaf Ahmed and constable Manzoor Ahmed sustained injuries and Altaf Ahmad succumbed to injuries later. The militants escaped in injured condition and after following blood trials cordon and search operation was launched in another village and searches are going on.
