BUDGAM, Nov 24: Residents of Budgam town took to streets on Thursday to protest erratic power outages and started holding demonstrations against unscheduled power cuts by Power Development Corporation Limited (PDCL).
Some protesters while talking to the Kashmir Despatch alleged that there has been no power supply to them for most of the time apart from unscheduled power cuts.
One of the protestors, Hamid Ali told the Kashmir Despatch that the authorities had claimed that they will improve the power system but unfortunately nothing seems to have been improved on ground.
The government had earlier said that PDCL is fully prepared for winter, particularly the 40-day harsh “Chillai Kalan” period and that Kashmir is receiving 10 to 12% more power supply than last year.
Executive Engineer PDD Budgam, Nazir Ahmad Laway told media persons that the department will look into this matter and assured that the Budgam town will get round the clock electricity if people cooperate and follow the guidelines of the load shedding of the department.
