Residents hail Tehsildar Pattan for self-governing exercise

PATTAN, Aug 6: Elections were held for the post of Chowkidar in Waripora Tapper area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday, marking a history of sorts in Kashmir.
Five nomineess had enrolled their names for the post of Chowkidar in Tapper of Pattan, after which the election was officially held today under the supervision of Tehsildar Patan Sakib Murtaza, for the first time in Kashmir Valley to elect a Chowkidar on democratic procedure.
Meanwhile, the people of the area came to vote consecutively to elect their chowkidar in the morning, in which a significant number of highly educated youths also participated.
Speaking to Kashmir Despatch , the educated youth said that the era of illiteracy is over, now people can elect their representatives by using their votes appropriately.
“This was slight effort towards right determination, similarly we should partake all election exercise for our better advancement, demonstrating against elections effects our society we don not get reasonable option by our own way ” said Adil Rather 25 years old resident of a village.
Taking people of the region in contemplation and to ensure, transparency in elections, Tehsildar Pattan initiated election strategy for the first period in history of J&K for the post.
Reports reaching to Kashmir Despatch said that voting which began at 7am today witnessed overwhelming participation in the election process.
Residents of the area admired the initiative of Tehsildar Pattan for transparent and democratic process.
