Crackdown on Zanakot HMT Food Units: Three Manufacturers Face Legal Action Over Sanitary Violations

Date:

Srinagar, Mar 24 : In a move to uphold public health standards, the Food Safety Team Srinagar, a division of the Drug and Food Control Organization, conducted intensive inspections of food manufacturing units in the HMT Industrial Area, located in Srinagar’s Zanakot locality. The inspections were carried out under the directives of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din, focusing on facilities producing bakery items, sweets, and namkeen.

Led by Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety, Srinagar, Yameen-ul-Nabi, the operation revealed several units violating sanitary and hygienic norms mandated under the Food Safety and Standards Act. Three establishments were identified for operating under insanitary conditions, and formal challans were filed with the Adjudicating Officer for legal action.

During the inspections, the team emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance to Food Business Operators (FBOs), particularly those managing bakery units. Officials underscored the critical need to adhere to safety protocols to ensure the production of quality food for consumers.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din reiterated the administration’s commitment to rigorous and routine inspections across the city, aiming to guarantee that all market-sold food products meet prescribed safety benchmarks. “This initiative is vital to safeguarding public health and fostering consumer trust,” he stated.

The Drug and Food Control Organization reaffirmed its dedication to promoting safe food practices and ensuring healthy dietary standards for the population. Such efforts align with broader goals to mitigate health risks and enhance accountability within Kashmir’s food production sector.
