SRINAGAR, Nov 16: A massive fire gutted a grand mosque in Drass area of Ladakh this evening, official sources said.
They said that the fire broke out at Qadeem Hanfia Jamia Masjid Shareef and soon after spread to whole of the structure. “Locals alongside police and army reached the spot and launched an operation to douse the fire. However the flames engulfed and damaged the mosque in entirety”, they said.
There was no injury reported in the incident, they said.
A local in the meantime told GNS that there is no Fire Service Station in Drass. “Fire tenders’ were sought from Kargil to put off the flames. “Had there been any Fire Service Station in Drass, the loss could have been avoided”, he said and urged authorities to establish a Fire Service Station in Drass to tackle any such eventuality in future.
