Srinagar, Mar 06 : Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat declared that the battle against drug trafficking and terrorism will be treated with equal urgency, emphasizing the interconnected nature of the two threats. He accused Pakistan’s military and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of orchestrating narcotics smuggling through terror networks to destabilize the region.
Speaking at Thana Diwas DGP as per Kashmir Despatch said “the drug menace is as grave a threat as terrorism, and we must combat both on the same footing,” Prabhat stated, highlighting the need for a coordinated approach to tackle these challenges. He revealed that Pakistan-based agencies are using terror outfits to funnel drugs across the western borders into India, describing it as a “well-organized crime network.”
Prabhat expressed concern over the growing involvement of youth in drug-related activities, citing instances of schoolchildren being found selling contraband. “Parents and society must step up their vigilance. The lack of supervision at the family level is alarming,” he said, urging communities to play a more active role in curbing the drug epidemic.
The DGP also addressed the issue of public liquor consumption in vehicles, vowing to crack down on such activities. “This behavior will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against offenders,” he warned.
On the operational front, Prabhat shared that confiscated drugs are systematically destroyed as part of an annual exercise. He also touched upon the alleged misuse of security personnel, revealing that he had reduced his own security detail by over two-thirds to address manpower shortages in the force.
To bolster law and order, additional deployments have been made in Jammu, Prabhat announced. He assured that performance-based rewards and postings would be implemented to motivate the police force, acknowledging that systemic reforms take time. “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he remarked, signaling a long-term strategy to enhance the force’s efficiency.
Regarding women’s safety, the DGP issued a stern warning to Investigating Officers, stating that failure to file chargesheets within the stipulated time would result in strict disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat also announced a major manpower optimization drive, revealing he cut two-thirds of his own security.
There is a saying that charity begins at home, so I have initiated improved resource allocation from myself by reliving two thirds of my security guards, “he added.
