Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations Across the Country

Srinagar, Mar 31 : Muslims around the Country are celebrating Eid al-Fitr, one of the biggest celebrations in the Islamic calendar.

Eid al-Fitr – which means “festival of the breaking of the fast” – is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting for many adults, as well as spiritual reflection and prayer.

The iconic markets of New Delhi, Kashmir, Jammu Hyderabad, Patna, Mumbai and Kolkata buzzed last evening as worshippers thronged shops to buy essentials to celebrate the festival.

PM Modi extends Eid greetings, wishes joy and success
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings for Eid in a post on X.

“May this festival enhance the spirit of hope, harmony and kindness in our society. May there be joy and success in all your endeavours. Eid Mubarak!” he wrote.

President Droupadi Murmu greeted all Indians living in India and abroad, especially Muslim brothers and sisters. “May this festival bring peace, progress, and happiness to all and give us strength to move forward with a positive attitude,” she said in a statement.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar extended his greetings and said the Islamic festival “reminds us of the strength we draw from our cultural diversity and the common bonds that unite us.”

In his message, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, “On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the period of fasting, prayer, and charity during the pious month of Ramadhan and an important occasion for festivities, all-round joy and togetherness. It strengthens our faith in oneness, compassion and brotherhood. May Eid-ul-Fitr this year usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also extended warm greetings to the people of J&K and beyond on the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. In his message on the auspicious occasion, he highlighted the significance of Eid as a divine blessing following a month of fasting and devotion.

The CM emphasised that Eid is an occasion to express gratitude to the Almighty and to cherish the spirit of togetherness and compassion fostered during Ramadhan.

“Eid is a time when people come together to celebrate the blessings of Ramadan, strengthening the bonds of community and reinforcing the values of mutual respect and brotherhood. It is a time to share happiness, extend kindness and support those in need,” he said. CM Omar said that the festival is a true reflection of J&K’s rich tradition of communal harmony, shared heritage, and cultural inclusivity, strengthening the fabric of unity and peace.

On this occasion, he prayed for peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of J&K and for all those celebrating Eid across the world.

Meanwhile, across the country security arrangements have been put in place to prevent untoward incidents during the celebration of the festival.
