Srinagar, 31 Jul, 2024: The Kashmir Women Cricket League 2024, Season II, commenced today at the iconic Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, with a grand opening ceremony that set the stage for an exciting tournament.
The league, organized by the 31 Sub Area under the aegis of the Chinar Corps, brought together 12 teams comprising 160 talented women cricketers from across Kashmir. The event aims to promote women’s cricket in the region, fostering a spirit of competition and camaraderie.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, GOC, 31 Sub Area, and the Guest of Honour, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, who encouraged the participants to showcase their skills and sportsmanship. The coveted trophy was unveiled, marking the beginning of the tournament, which is scheduled to run from August 1st to 8th.
This initiative by the Army is a shining example of its dedication to women’s empowerment and its efforts to create opportunities for women to excel in sports. By supporting and encouraging women in sports, the Army aims to promote gender equality and build confidence among the participants.
The league is being organized in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), Ujala Cygnus chain of Hospitals, and Hope Alive NGO, further strengthening the commitment to fostering a inclusive and supportive environment for women’s sports in the region.
