HAJIN, Feb 28: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday termed handing over of administrative control of SKIMS to health and medical education department as an unnecessary decision.
As per the Kashmir Despatch correspondent, Bukhari said, “I hope the administration won’t make the mistake of taking down its (SKIMS) deemed university status. I hope it’s not reduced to the medical college level. This institute is of great significance and a pioneering institute.”
He observed, “I don’t know what the government wants to prove by taking such decisions. Apni Party is strong enough to defend anti-people moves. If Apni Party comes to power, every such anti people order would be revoked.”
Pertinently, the autonomy of the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) has ended, as the director of the institute has been directed to submit all matters to the Department of Health and Medical Education for approval.
The official communiqué of Health and Medical Education, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Despatch, reads that the administration of SKIMS has been assigned to the Health and Medical Education Department.
“Accordingly, I am directed to intimate you that henceforth all matters, proposals, and case files may be submitted for the consideration and approval of the competent authority (HLG) through the Health and Medical Education Department,” it reads.
“The case files, references, and proposals received from the SKIMS and presently lying in the General Administration Department are accordingly returned herewith in the ‘1’ phase for further action as per the existing TBRs,” it adds further.
