Falling education standards in govt. schools and Board actions push the future of students into darkness

Date:

Srinagar, Feb 4, : Despite drawing hefty salaries by the teaching staff, the overall performance of students of government schools in class 10th examinations has miserable discouraging.

While on one side, the education standard in government schools has fallen to a concerning level for the parents, on the other, Jammu and Kashmir Board of Secondary Education has been alleged  by the students of Magam Higher Secondary School and their parents for playing with the future of class 10th  students, by withholding the result of  class 12th students.

While having a look at the overall performance of government schools of the valley in various examinations, the results are quite discouraging.

In many schools, particularly in rural areas, the outcome has been zero, while in most of the government schools, particularly in rural areas, it is quite below average.

In Government Higher School Munad Gufan, Yaripora Kulgam not a single class 10th student has qualified the Board exams, while the result outcome of Matriculation students of Government High School Asnoor, Kulgam has been 16 percent.

Deputy Chief Education Officer Kulgam Bashir Ahmed, while confirming the fall in the educational standards in the district, told news agency that the department has taken a serious note of the poor performance of the students in their exams and department is initiating and enquiry to know the reasons behind such a fall.

“If it is found that the teaching staff of the schools is responsible for the poor results, a strict action will be taken against them”, he added.

Meanwhile the Board authorities have withheld the results of 120 class 12th students of Magam Higher Secondary school in Budgam, where it said that the action has been taken on the grounds of a complaint of copying  in Greenway School Magam, where an examination center was put up  for the students from the said school.

The students of the said school are aghast and depressed over the withholding of their results by the Board authorities, saying that if there were complaints of copying in their center, why was result withheld at the eleventh hour and why was not the decision taken immediately after the receipt of the complaint. “While competitive exams are on their heads, they are in a state of uncertainty about what to do. We request board authorities not to play with our future’’, they added.

Meanwhile Joint secretary, while responding to the allegation of the students and their parents had few days ago said that board has called the some of the students for verification of their handwriting in order to rule out the complaints of unfair means and once the process is over, the final call over the issue will be taken within one are two days, but so far no indication to the problems of the students has been visible on ground, who are going through trauma, while waiting for their results to be declared.  (CNS)
