Gulmarg, Mar 03 : As Kashmir received significant snowfall over the past week, hopes for the much-anticipated Khelo India Winter Games 2025 in Gulmarg have come alive, and the event will begin on March 9 in Gulmarg.
Official sources told Kashmir Despatch that, with the fresh snowfall, the J&K administration and J&K Sports Council are fully prepared to host the second leg of KIWG 2025 in Gulmarg from March 9 to 12, ensuring a world-class winter experience in one of India’s premier snow destinations.
Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had expressed uncertainty about organizing the event due to inadequate snowfall. However, with fresh snow blanketing the region, the authorities are now all set to host the Winter Games from March 9 to 12.
Pertinently, Since the abrogation of Article 370, the Lieutenant Governor’s administration has organized the Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg to promote winter sports. The elected government now aims to continue this tradition. The event typically attracts athletes from across the country. However, this year, concerns about climate change initially cast doubts over the games, impacting both the administration and local businesses, including hoteliers who rely on the tourism influx generated by the event.
