Srinagar, May 19 : A candlelight march was held in South Kashmir parts against the killing of a former sarpanch on Saturday late evening by terrorists.
Reports reaching the news agency Kashmir Scroll said that senior citizens, shopkeepers, and members of the traders association in Kulgam held a peaceful protest and candlelight march in the main town of Kulgam against the killing of former sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad in Shopian and the killing of two tourists in Pahalgam, Anantnag.
Reports said that the civil society took to the streets on Sunday evening and held a candlelight vigil to denounce the civilian killings.
According to the protesting members, they collectively denounced the killings, which they believe are against the spirit of humanity.
Meanwhile, reports reaching Kashmir Scroll said that a candlelight march was also held in Anantnag.
Pertinently, terrorists fired upon former sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Shikeh of Hirpora, Shopian, and injured him critically. However, he succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
In another terrorist attack, two Jaipur tourists, including a female, were injured in the Yanner area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Both the injured were evacuated to the hospital for advanced treatment.(KS)
