From Udta Kashmir to Drug-Free Baramulla

Baramulla police proved that drugs are a big enemy and “drug-free Baramulla” is the main objective of the police in the district by arresting 58 drug peddlers in just two months of 2023.


An official told Kashmir Despatch that the topmost priority of the Baramulla police is to further strengthen the fight against drugs to make the district drug-free.


During the months of January and February, he said, police in the district registered 40 cases, arrested 58 drug peddlers, and recovered contraband worth crores in the black market.


As per official data, police in the first two months of 2023 seized contraband worth more than 3 crores, including brown sugar (3.14 kg, valued at 2.97 crores), herion (152 grams, valued at 5.93 lacs), cahras (4.671 kg, valued at 6.01 lacs), poppy straw/cannabis powder (58.20 kg, valued at 8.73 lacs),  cash (40.15 lacs), and a vehicle (09.


Speaking with Kashmir Despatch, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, stated that the top cop’s priority would be to eradicate the drug menace from the district.


The top cop has exhorted civil society to wake up to the monstrous reality consuming precious young lives and socially boycott drug peddlers.


The efforts of the police and community leaders are aimed at creating a safer and healthier environment for young people to thrive and make positive contributions to society, the officer added.
