Gas Leak in Dibrugarh Contained Swiftly, Confirms Oil India

NEW DELHI, May 2: A potential disaster was averted in Assam’s Dibrugarh district after Oil India Limited (OIL) successfully controlled a gas leak at a shut-in well in the Lankasi-Kothalguri area. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 PM on May 1, 2025, was swiftly addressed by OIL’s internal well services team.

According to an official press release issued by OIL, a preliminary assessment revealed that the leak stemmed from a mechanical error in the casing valve. Responding quickly, the company deployed its well services team along with full security cover to the site.

The team worked through the night and completed the replacement of the faulty casing valve by 1:00 AM on May 2, ensuring the situation was brought under control without any damage to life or property.

Reassuring the public, Oil India Limited emphasized its commitment to the highest safety standards and affirmed that all necessary measures are consistently taken to mitigate such risks.
