SRINAGAR, May 2: In a major boost to public education, government schools across Jammu and Kashmir have shown a remarkable improvement in the recently announced Class 10 and 12 board examination results. The enhanced academic performance, coupled with innovative achievements at the national level, marks a new chapter in the educational standards of government institutions in the Valley.
The results reflect a consistent upward trend in the quality of education, with over 100 students from government schools securing merit positions in the Class 12 results declared by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE). Additionally, students from the region have made their mark in a prestigious national-level innovation competition, highlighting both academic excellence and creativity nurtured in public schools.
Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Dr. G.N. Itoo, while sharing insights into this success, said that the results are not only promising but also a testament to the educational transformation taking place in the government sector. He pointed out that not a single government school reported a pass percentage near zero, which is a significant indicator of collective improvement.
Dr. Itoo highlighted that in the Class 10 results, a total of 438 government schools achieved a pass percentage exceeding 90%, while 219 schools recorded a 100% pass rate—a milestone that reflects the focused efforts of educators and administrators.
Expressing his satisfaction, Dr. Itoo said, “These achievements are the direct result of the sincere efforts of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the growing faith that parents are now placing in government institutions.”
He further emphasized that the Department of School Education has been continuously working on quality enhancement measures. The success can be attributed to various initiatives such as the introduction of laboratory and ICT facilities, implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and a shift towards modern pedagogical practices.
“Our goal is to ensure equitable access to quality education. With upgraded infrastructure and committed faculty, we are gradually bridging the gap between government and private schools,” he added.
Congratulating the meritorious students, Dr. Itoo assured that the government is committed to sustaining and further strengthening these achievements. “We will continue to upgrade school facilities and focus on innovative learning to ensure that every student across Jammu and Kashmir receives the best possible education,” he said.
According to official data, 39,768 students appeared for the Class 10 board exams this year, out of which 31,010 students successfully cleared the exams, bringing the overall pass percentage to 77.97%—a substantial success rate that further underscores the upward trajectory of government school education.
The education department’s renewed focus on holistic development, academic excellence, and infrastructure upgradation is now visibly bearing fruit, making government schools a preferred choice for many across the region.
