Doctors felicitated, healthcare vision for future shared

SRINAGAR, July 1: The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura celebrated Doctor’s Day today with a poignant ceremony under the theme “Healing Hands, Caring Heart.” The event not only paid tribute to the resilience and dedication of medical professionals but also set forth a visionary path for the institution’s future.

Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie, Director of SKIMS, led the celebrations by emphasizing the daily challenges faced by doctors, likening their routine to confronting pandemic-like situations.

“Every day in the emergency ward feels like dealing with a Covid-19-like situation, yet our doctors remain tirelessly dedicated to easing patients’ suffering,” Dr. Ganaie noted, highlighting the unwavering commitment of medical professionals even at personal risk.

The event was graced by distinguished guests including Professor Habibullah Zargar, former Principal of GMC Srinagar, as Chief Guest, and Professor Nilofar Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, as Guest of Honor. Former SKIMS Directors Prof. M.S Khroo and Prof. O J Shah were also present, endorsing the institution’s significant role in global medical advancement.

Dr. Ganaie unveiled plans for enhancing SKIMS’s future, promising improved recreational facilities for staff and the establishment of a Special Award to recognize exemplary service

“Within a few months, significant positive changes will be evident at SKIMS as we are dedicated to providing world-class healthcare to the people,” he stated.

Prof. Shariq A. Masoodi, Dean Medical Faculty at SKIMS, emphasized the importance of ethics and compassion in medical practice, while Prof. Farooq A Jan, Medical Superintendent, and Prof. G. H Yatoo, Head of Hospital Administration, spoke on the significance of Doctor’s Day in honoring medical professionals’ tireless efforts.

Other notable medical professionals also shared their insights. Dr. Naveed Nazir, a renowned pulmonologist, stressed the importance of trust-building with patients and the role of technology in healthcare. Prof. Ruby Reshi, Principal at GMC Baramulla, urged future healthcare professionals to uphold medical standards and serve communities with excellence.

Dr. Mufti Mahmood, a urologist, described the day as a tribute to the selfless service of medical professionals, while Prof. Iqbal Saleem Mir reminded patients of doctors’ limitations despite their commitment to handling complex medical challenges.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Shahnawaz Hamid, Assistant Professor of Hospital Administration at SKIMS, expressing gratitude to all participants for their support and presence.

This Doctor’s Day celebration at SKIMS not only honored the past and present contributions of medical professionals but also set an inspiring tone for the future of healthcare in the region.
