BANDIPORA, July 01: Panic gripped in Quil village of Bandipora after 16 children were reported positive for Hepatitis-A on Saturday afternoon.
Locals while speaking with Kashmir Despatch said that the recent rains had affected water quality in nearby streams as they have not any other choice for collecting water for drinking purposes.
The villagers use water from nearby streams, they added. Locals appealed authorities to look into the matter and provide them safe drinking water facility.
Speaking with the reporters Dr. Nabeel said that “we have reported 16 Hapitiat-A cases from Quail village and 11 Hapitiates-E cases from which 16 cases of Hepatitis-A were found positive in Quil village only “
He said that contaminated water is the reason for the disease and recent rains may be one of the causes as the villagers use water from nearby streams.
“The advisory had been issued on loudspeakers in local mosques and officially, the teams in monitoring the situation of the villages,”he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmad while giving the details said that the appearance of waterborne diseases in Bandipora had decreased from the last year. District Administration had provided filtration water to several areas which were prone to these diseases, he added.
“The advisory had been issued by health department peoples have been advised to use safe and boiled water for drinking purposes in these areas,”he added.
