In a remarkable achievement, a joint operation conducted by the NCB, Navy, and Gujarat Police has resulted in the largest offshore seizure of drugs in India, contributing to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision of a drug-free Bharat. Approximately 3300 kg of drugs, including the highest seizure of Charas/Hashish in the country, were confiscated in the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, five foreign nationals suspected of drug trafficking have been detained or arrested.

This historic success is a testament to the unwavering commitment of Prime Minister Shri Modi and the Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, in eliminating the menace of drugs and securing the nation’s future. Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has extended his congratulations to the NCB, Navy, and Gujarat Police for their outstanding performance.
To counter the threat to national security arising from maritime drug trafficking in the Indian Ocean region, the Director General of NCB launched Operation “SAGAR-MANTHAN” under the guidance of Deputy Director General (Ops), Sh. Gyaneshwar Singh. This operation, preceded by the successful “Operation Samudragupta,” aims to gather information and intercept ships carrying narcotics contraband.

Through continuous intelligence collection and analysis, the joint team of NCB, Navy, and Gujarat ATS successfully intercepted a suspicious vessel on 27th February 2024, towing it to Porbandar for further investigation. The operation resulted in the detention/arrest of five foreign nationals and the seizure of substantial amounts of drugs, including Charas/Hashish, Meth, and Heroin.
The NCB is determined to dismantle the entire international syndicate and will seek the cooperation of foreign drug law enforcement agencies. This operation serves as an excellent example of inter-agency cooperation and coordination, and the NCB expresses its appreciation for the exceptional support provided by the Indian Navy and ATS Gujarat Police.

The success of this operation brings us one step closer to achieving a drug-free India, safeguarding the security and future of our beloved nation.
