BANDIPORA, May 18: In a remarkable display of artistic ingenuity, an illiterate poetess from Bandipora has astounded the local community by composing enchanting verses in an unknown language of shapes like zeros.
With no formal education and a profound love for poetry, Zareefa Jaan has created a unique form of expression that transcends the confines of traditional literary conventions.
Zareefa Jaan, a resident of Naidkhai village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has become the talk of the area with her captivating poetic compositions. Unbeknownst to the world until recently, Zaraeefa’s illiteracy had never deterred her passion for the written word. Instead, she delved deep into her imagination and discovered a language composed entirely of shapes resembling zeros.
Speaking with the Kashmir Despatch, Zareefa said that she had not taken any education from any educational institute. “These verses come automatically in my mind and I write them. I had written several poems which have been liked by a lot of people.”
Her compositions, written on worn-out parchment with charcoal, possess an otherworldly beauty that speaks directly to the soul.
