Innovative Tech by KU Professor Targets Night Traffic Accidents

Srinagar : Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, a faculty member at Kashmir University, has been granted a patent for his groundbreaking technology aimed at reducing night traffic accidents caused by traffic light glare.

As per details available with Kashmir Despatch, This patent, awarded on February 9, 2023, marks a significant milestone in the realm of traffic safety.

The invention is truly unique and has the potential to make a positive impact on the motor landscape both within and outside the country. With more than 52% of traffic accidents occurring at night, this innovation has the potential to save countless lives.

An official at Kashmir University told Kashmir Despatch that the University Innovation Centre plans to collaborate with relevant automobile manufacturing industries to assess the techno-economic feasibility of implementing this innovation in a wide variety of automobile units.

He said this highlights the potential for widespread adoption and the positive influence it can have on traffic safety.

Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah, along with his team consisting of Parsa Sarosh, Sabreena Mushtaq, and Sheezan Fayaz, should be commended for their hard work and dedication in developing this innovative solution. Their efforts have the potential to revolutionize road safety and make a significant difference in reducing night traffic accidents caused by glare from traffic lights he added.

Meanwhile, a group of students while reacting to Dr. Shabir Parah’s achievement of reducing night traffic accidents expressed that this news brings hope and excitement for a safer future on the roads, they said that it serves as a testament to the brilliant minds and innovative spirit within our academic institutions.

In her message, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Dr Shabir Ahmad Parah and his team for this remarkable achievement.

Prof Khan also acknowledged the contributions of other faculty members, teachers and administrative officers who supported and encouraged innovation at Kashmir University.

“Since, innovations are the cornerstone of a university ecosystem, a number of initiatives has been taken up to promote innovation-related activities intended to yield a positive impact on the employability of skilled youth.

Dean, Research, KU, Professor Mohammad Sultan Bhat, highlighted the importance of this invention and announced that the varsity’s Innovation Centre will collaborate with relevant automobile manufacturing industries to assess the techno-economic feasibility of integrating this innovation into a wide range of automobile products, the statement read further.

Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Farooq Ahmad Masoodi, KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal besides various other university officers, teachers, scholars and students also congratulated the team for the invention.
