International Conference on AYUSH for Healthy Life Begins at IUST

SRINAGAR, Oct 17: The International Conference on “AYUSH for Healthy Life: Integrating Indian and Modern Systems of Medicine” commenced today at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora.

The event brought together numerous medical professionals, scholars, and practitioners from across the country and the world to discuss the fusion of traditional and modern healthcare systems.


Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) was the chief guest on the occasion and Prof. Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS Srinagar was the Guest of Honour.


Prof. A.H Moon, Dean Academic Affairs underlined the importance of integrating the traditional medicine with the modern medicine system in vogue across the country.


He observed that the fusion of traditional medicine and modern pharmacy can immensely contribute in the economy of the country. He also emphasized on channelizing the chain of herbal raw material being produced in Kashmir so that the same generates employment opportunities for locals and contribute in enhancing the utilisation of these locally available herbs in production of the unani medicine in the country.


Dr Arsheed Ganaie, Convener of the conference highlighted the role of academicians for taking the joint research projects for exploring the local medicinal herbs for their prospects in treatment of non communicable disease prevalent in the country.


As a key highlight of the event, a Health Mela was organized in collaboration with Unani Drugs Manufacturers Association (UDMA). During the Health Mela, free medical consultations and healthcare services were provided to the public.


The conference is being organized by the Centre for AYUSH Science, IUST, aiming to foster collaboration between Indian and modern medical systems. Speaking about the event, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor, IUST, expressed that this initiative reflects the university’s commitment to promoting holistic healthcare and expanding the reach of AYUSH practices.
