Ishfaq Jabbar says he won’t join any political party

Date:

“Omar Abdullah first Kashmiri to ally with BJP; Farooq preferred power over autonomy”

Raja Syed Rather

Srinagar, Apr 30 : Former MLA Ganderbal Ishfaq Jabbar on Sunday said that he wouldn’t join any political party, but would continue to work as an independent political leader for the welfare of the people.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a rally organised by him to observe the 34th death anniversary of his father Sheikh Jabbar, Ishfaq, who was suspended from membership National Conference, said that he wouldn’t join any political party.

“I don’t have plans to join any political party, however, I along with other like-minded people would continue to work independently for the welfare of my people,” he said, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said that he has no plans to form any new party. “It is premature to say that a new party will be formed, because there are already so many parties,” he said.

Ishfaq may have organized an impressive show of strength today, but it wouldn’t be easy for him to win from Ganderbal –which is considered bastion of Abdullah’s. Similarly, it would also not be a cakewalk for NC.

The political equations have changed in Ganderbal after delimitation.

In a statement released to media later, Ishfaq said “Omar Abdullah is the best separatist when out of power and a tyrannical mainstreamer when in power”.

He said Omar Abdullah also seems to have forgotten that he was the first person from Kashmir to be part of the BJP government at the Centre in 1999.

Jabbar said Omar Abdullah’s father unleashed the brutal Ikhwan regime on to the hapless Kashmiris between 1996 and 2002.

He said that New Delhi was willing to give autonomy to Kashmir in 1995-96, but Farooq Abdullah preferred power over it—(KNO)
