Baramulla, Mar 20 : The Jal Shakti Department Baramulla has warned consumers, particularly commercial establishments, to clear their outstanding water bills within the next four days or face disconnection.

Speaking with reporters, Executive Engineer Baramulla division, Er Aijaz Ahmed, stated that the department has no option but to disconnect water supply of defaulters, starting with commercial units and subsequently extending the action to domestic users.

“Clear your outstanding bills, or else we will be forced to disconnect your water supply,” he said, urging those with unregistered connections to regularise them immediately to avoid punitive measures.

He said consumers with pending dues exceeding Rs 10,000 will be the first to face immediate disconnection. He also encouraged consumers to make their payments online to avoid inconvenience.

Er Aijaz also warned against the misuse of potable water, stating that legal action, including filling of an FIR, will be taken against those found using tap water for non-essential activities such as watering kitchen gardens and washing vehicles. “We won’t hesitate to take stringent action against violators,” he cautioned.

He urged consumers to use water judiciously. “Nobody will be given special treatment,” he asserted—(KNO)
