Jalandhar Cantt. Railway Station is set to undergo a major upgradation, with the total project cost estimated at 98.89 Cr. The station will be transformed into an iconic building with world-class passenger facilities.

One of the key highlights of the project is the integration of both sides of the city, with station buildings on both sides of the railway tracks. The new station buildings will be designed as green buildings, with an emphasis on natural ventilation and lighting.

To ensure easy movement for passengers, the upgradation will include the provision of foot over bridges (FOBs), lifts, and escalators for vertical circulation. The concourse area will be spacious and will house all passenger amenities, along with spaces for retail, cafeterias, and recreational facilities. Adequate parking facilities will also be provided to ensure smooth traffic flow.

The entry and exit points of the station will be designed to be congestion-free and non-conflicting, with dedicated drop-off and pick-up points. Signages and digital displays will be installed to provide all kinds of travel-related information.

The project involves the construction of new station buildings, with a total area of 6509 sqm. A second entry side station building with an area of 240 sqm will also be developed. The existing through roof station building will be extended to 9400 sqm. Additionally, an air concourse measuring 36m x 41m will be connected to both the main and second entry.

Other new facilities include platform development, surfacing, and the construction of an additional parking area. The entire design will be made divyang-friendly, with access ramps, lifts, tactile flooring, and suitable toilets.

The tender and contract processes for the project are in progress. The contract for the construction has been awarded to M/s Deepak Builders and Engineers India Pvt. Ltd. Ludhiana. The consulting engineering group, Jaipur, has been appointed for project management. The project is expected to be completed by June 6, 2024.

As of now, significant progress has been made, with 65% physical progress and 62% financial progress. An expenditure of 60.60 Cr has been incurred out of the total project cost. The project is on track and is scheduled to be completed within the planned timeline.
