JK CM Blames Pakistan for Escalation

Date:

Says Peace Will Prevail Only When Pakistan Lays Down Its Arms

Srinagar, May 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday reiterated India’s stance for peace, emphasizing that the ongoing tensions stem from Pakistan’s aggression, particularly the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives.

In a firm yet measured statement, Abdullah declared, “We did not initiate this conflict. The guns will fall silent on our side only when they fall silent on the other side.” His words underscored India’s resolve to defend its sovereignty while leaving the door open for de-escalation—should Pakistan abandon violence.

Speaking to the media during his visit to shelling-affected areas in Uri, Omar, as per Kashmir Despatch, stated that the continuous two-day shelling from across the border had targeted civilian areas in Uri, Tangdhar, Poonch, and Rajouri, seemingly as a deliberate attempt to inflict maximum harm on civilians.

He noted that the Line of Control (LoC) now appears calm, and efforts are underway to assess and compensate for the damage in affected areas. “We have started the process,” he added.

He further mentioned that, in consultation with the central government, a plan would be formulated to construct bunkers in all border areas.

“I am pleased that the DGMO from the other side picked up the phone and called here, which helped establish a ceasefire,” he said.

Reflecting on the resilience of border residents, CM Omar remarked, “Our people in these areas have faced extraordinary challenges—enduring the catastrophic earthquake of 2005 and the ongoing torment of cross-border shelling. Yet, time and again, they have demonstrated remarkable courage and unyielding resilience. Their spirit shines brightly, serving as a powerful testament to their strength and determination in the face of adversity.”

During his visit, Omar also met with the grief-stricken family of Nargis Begum, who tragically lost her life in the recent Uri shelling.

“No words can truly capture the depth of their sorrow or the enormity of this tragedy. My heart goes out to them, and I pray they find the strength to endure this unimaginable loss. In this moment of grief, we stand resolutely with the family, offering our unwavering support and solidarity,” he said.

He added that his colleagues, Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami Sahib) and Dr. Sajad Shafi Sahib, joined him in offering Fatiha for the deceased.
